We visited Hacienda Luisita a week ago for a National Service Training Program Immersion of our College. As we arrived there, we were greeted by the entire community. They are so Hospitable . Everywhere you go, people will just simply wave and greet . They let us in and opened the doors of their homes. Each one of us were warmly welcomed by the family and fostered just like their own children. But behind the every smile they give, there is pain inside their hearts.burning. The land justice was not given to them and they were tricked out by the nasty political system of the Philippines. I know these people deserve some respect and they have need their voice to extend more beyond the public reach.
When we talked with them, we realized that news that shown on the national tv are politically biased. There are a lot of heart-breaking stories. If you go there, you will feel the situation not found in the news. you will feel their struggle in order to live. Authorities destroys the crops for no reason and just leave them. The worse thing to see is to see them laughing in front of the crying desperate women landowners. Some innocent farmers were beaten, injured and jailed without concrete reason.
This is how cruel the authorities are. I pray that Hacienda Luisita will receive the justice they deserve sooner.
